Travelfusion's Social Media Officer, I manage all of our online marketing and presence on Twitter, Facebook, our blog and more. I love my job!

Through my travels, I’ve been able to sample all kinds of different meals and cultural cuisines.  Sometimes, there’s nothing better to end a delicious meal than a mouth-watering, perfect dessert.  With so many different dessert options around the world, here’s a list of my favourite ones so far. I’ve got so much more of the world to discover so this list may be on the brief side, but it will hopefully just give me inspiration for my next trips!

GelatoFlorence, Italy

What melts in your mouth and tastes remarkably refreshing after a long summer day of touring Italy? Gelato, of course!  Although gelato can be found easily in many big international cities, none has been as mouth-watering as the gelatos that I sampled in Florence, Italy.  The freshness of the ingredients and creativity of some flavours really tickled my taste buds.  I can’t wait to go back for more!

MacaronsParis, France

There’s a debate raging across Paris about who can make the best macaron.  These meringue-based cookies with creamy or jelly-like centres come in a variety of flavours and can be found in patisseries across the city.  For the best ones (in my opinion), head to Pierre Hermé’s shops in the city.  The one I can’t get enough of is the delicious caramel flavour – try for yourself!  Rumour has it that a Pierre Hermé shop will be opening soon in London so I won’t have to go all the way to Paris to have one!

Churros with ChocolateMadrid, Spain

Having been introduced to churros as a child at baseball games and Disneyland, nothing prepared me for the delight that is a Spanish churro, enjoyed with rich melted chocolate as a dipping sauce.  Known also as “Spanish doughnuts,” churros are basically strips of dough fried until crispy and dipped in sugar.  Plenty of cafés and restaurants in Madrid serve these either as a dessert or a snack and they are absolutely divine.

Chinese Pastries (all kinds!)Beijing, China

From buttercream buns to lotus buns and everything in-between, Chinese bakeries offer some of the most tasteful desserts I’ve ever tried.  Though I sampled many a delicacy in Beijing, most bakeries in Chinatowns across the world are up to par with the pastries I ate there.  If you can’t make it all the way to China you can still enjoy these treats!

Salted Caramel CrêpesLille, France

Known world-wide, crêpes are a French treat that can be made in so many different ways. The best crêpe I’ve ever had was a salted caramel crêpe at a little restaurant in Lille, France, but there’s a lot to be said about picking up this versatile snack at a street vendor and eating it on the go.  Yum!

Oreo S’moresWashington, D.C., United States

A typically American dessert that is usually enjoyed by a campfire or bonfire, the s’more is simple yet so tasty.  Toasted marshmallow and melted chocolate sandwiched between two graham crackers, the s’more can be easily made with just a few ingredients.  My favourite s’mores were at Cosi, a chain in Washington D.C. that let you make them yourself at your table with a tiny sterno flame and selection of ingredients. So good!

What is the best dessert you’ve ever tried on your travels?  Have you tried any of the ones listed above?  We’d love to hear about your sweet travel adventures!
