For many of us, travel and technology go hand in hand – you can’t have one without the other. These days, with the plethora of social media sites and ways to share information instantly around the globe, people are staying more and more connected with one another. Many travellers bring their laptops on trips in order to load photos and send emails from the road. Another useful tool for travellers is the iPhone. Nomadic Matt’s blog post this week offers a thoughtful analysis of useful travel-related iPhone applications that will help anyone on their next trip. With applications for currency rates, basic language information, maps and more, the iPhone is becoming a great all-in-one travel tool for many. Has the internet killed pioneering travel? – 501 Places

In today’s day and age when internet cafés have become as commonplace as pubs or restaurants in cities around the globe, the information online available for travellers has grown exponentially as well. Travel resources, hotel reviews and restaurant recommendations abound, and many of us now travel to new and unknown places with a battery of information readily available. Has this taken out some of the spontaneity in travel? Andy of 501 Places explores this in his recent post asking if the internet has somehow taken the “pioneer” spirit out of travel. It’s a very interesting question! What about you, when planning a trip do you research everything beforehand leaving little to chance, or do you just arrive and go from there? I guess I do a mix of both…
