This Travel Monday is our first in the Southern Hemisphere…check out some of our favourite ideas for things to see and do in Buenos Aires, Argentina!

The second largest metropolitan area in South America, Buenos Aires is a city that is full of culture and things to do and see.  On a visit, be sure to experience tango which was born in Buenos Aires.  This sensual dance and accompanying music has a huge influence on the style and culture of Buenos Aires and on the sphere of dance and music worldwide.  In Buenos Aires, find a tango show or even tango lessons to have a deeper appreciation of this Argentinian cultural cornerstone.

For a look at some history and beautiful architecture, enjoy a walk through the San Telmo neighbourhood which is the oldest in Buenos Aires.  Here you’ll find everything from street  artists, museums, and fabulous cafés lining the cobblestoned streets.  This is an especially good area for antique shops and a good place to go to find that special treasure to take back with you as a souvenir.  San Telmo is a great place to explore and is perfect either for  a quick tour or a long, leisurely afternoon.

Outdoor parks are a very important part of the culture in Buenos Aires and you can find a host of fantastic choices for open spaces to enjoy the famous Argentinian sunshine.  The largest park of its kind outside of Japan, the Japanese Gardens sit on five acres and offer visitors a cultural centre, greenhouse with flora native to Japan and restaurant, along with plenty of open space.  There is also a Buddhist temple on the grounds offering a quiet place away from the bustle of the city.  719929939_9aac8fbae7
