We’re continuing our series on street art today with a closer look at Berlin, Germany. In honour of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall twenty years ago, we thought it only fitting to highlight Berlin this week with a look at some of the best street art we could find.

One of Berlin’s most prolific street artists is Nomad, known for his colourful, avant garde pieces that can be found throughout the city and often in galleries. The photo above comes from his series “Rainbow Coloured Tears of a Clown.”

Building-side murals are also commonplace in Berlin, like this whimsical scene by famous street artists HuskMitNavn, who also sell t-shirts and merchandise on their website depicting some of their more well-known urban art pieces.

Of course no mention of Berlin street art would be complete without a showcase of some of the art that has been painted onto the existing sections of the Berlin Wall. The East Side Gallery is a 1.3 km section of the Berlin Wall that depicts over a hundred paintings by international artists and now stands as a memorial to freedom. Strolling alongside these sections of the wall you can see many different types of urban art, from the funky and colourful, to the more meaningful and poignant. In any case, this is perhaps the best example of urban art in the city.
Visit Berlin to see this artwork and many other examples – return flights this March from London to Berlin start at only £32!
