Some of the best places to visit and get away from the noise and speed in the middle of large cities are the immense urban parks that exist in nearly every big city. These parks offer a great opportunity to relax and perhaps take a break from busy sightseeing and touring.
One of these expansive urban parks that I’ve enjoyed visiting is the City Park in Budapest. In use as an urban park since the 1700’s, City Park is a huge space that has many different sights and activities to offer visitors. Just on the edge of the park stands the majestic Heroes’ Square (or Hosök tere) that was built as a monument to the founding tribes who helped to form Hungary in the 9th century, as well as other Hungarian heroes. This is a great spot for photos and also a good way to enter the City Park.

Once inside the park, enjoy strolling around the 302 acres and visit some of the other famous sites inside the park, including the Vajdahunyad Castle, zoo, museums or the medicinal baths and pools.

Or, if you’re visiting Budapest in the wintertime, bundle up and try ice skating on Europe’s largest outdoor ice rink, right in the middle of City Park!

There’s a little something for everyone in Budapest’s City Park. Return flights from London to Budapest start at only £51 this winter so you can visit and discover your favourite corners of the park.
