Most large capital cities have a series of renowned museums in which visitors can admire well-known art pieces. In my travels, I’ve been fortunate enough to visit some of these museums and really enjoyed some of the classic pieces that I’ve seen but I’ve also learned that some of the most dynamic and funky art can actually be found in the street.
Paris is a hotbed of really interesting street art. Here are a few highlighted artists and pieces that add interest and fun to your wanderings in the City of Lights.
The Space Invaders by an anonymous artist are my favourite street art pieces anywhere – I love turning a corner and discovering another little character on the sides of buildings, bridges and elsewhere. Hundreds of these little guys can be found in Paris, and sometimes take a sharp eye to spot. One of the best is this one across from the Notre Dame Cathedral:

Or how about this friendly message from another invader near the Canal St. Martin?

And how about this group of little aliens in the famous streets of the Marais?

In Paris, variety is the spice of life, and it’s not only about the Space Invaders. Miss.Tic is another street artist whose work can be found throughout the city, but especially in the 5e and 13e arrondissements. She’s gained notoriety around the city and even has a gallery and website highlighting her work. Here’s one of my favourites that says “Poetry is an extreme sport!”

Or this piece that says “You don’t lose anything by waiting for me.”

Our last highlighted artist of the day is Jef Aerosol. A mainstay of Parisian street art since the 1980’s, he uses stencils and various cultural icons to express himself throughout the city. Some of my favourites of his include the peaceful Ghandi stencil near rue Mouffetard in the 5e arrondissement.

This wider view of a wall near Place d’Italie shows a handful of Jef Aerosol’s works together making up a composite scene.

These are just a few of the many delightful street art pieces that you can discover for yourself. Travel from London to Paris to experience this art for yourself – return flights are starting at only £43 at the time of this post.
Stay tuned in the weeks to come for street art highlights from other cities!
