With Halloween coming up at the end of October, today we are featuring some spooky ghost town locations and abandoned sites – some of these places have been deserted for many years but others are more recently abandoned.

Bodie, California, USA – a formerly booming mining town in what was once the American “Wild West,” Bodie has been deserted for more than fifty years but many of its original buildings remain.

Gunkanjima Island, Japan – once one of the most densely populated areas on earth, this coal mining town on an island off the coast of Nagasaki is now completely abandoned and has been featured in many films and video games.  Now, all that’s left standing are empty relics of this industrial town.

Have you been to any abandoned locations? For me they hold an interesting opportunity to look back at the past at an era frozen in time, and I look forward to seeing and photographing some of these locations in my travels.
